ACF Report, June/July 2020

Summer is in full swing in much of the Kingdom, Falunnia’s agricultural enterprises are rapidly maturing. The fields are beginning to produce peas, beans, squash, and greens. Soon, sweet corn, beets, and cabbage will be ready for harvest. Latter season crops will be planted in mid-July for fall harvest such as fall carrots and second crop beans. Fruit crops have also been producing well, providing gooseberries and blackberries in quantity.

The 37 chicks acquired by the Kingdom are nearly a month old, and in another 6 weeks the 27 meat birds will be harvested, providing nearly 100 lbs of fresh whole chicken. The remaining 10 laying hens will continue to be nurtured and should begin laying in November. At full production, our flock should provide 7 dozen eggs per week. This will be a wonderful source of revenue for the Kingdom.

Fall hunting plans are being finalized. The Kingdom enjoys the benefit of having access to good hunting grounds that provide an abundance of fresh meat from deer, turkey, squirrels, ad rabbits. These carefully planned hunts focus on managing healthy populations of wildlife within the Kingdom while also providing sustenance.

Similarly, plans for timber harvest are being developed in the Dry Hill Territory. This harvest will provide wood for fires over the winter, specialty wood to smoke and preserve parts of our game harvest, and wood for craft and construction.

All told, the busiest season for the agricultural endeavors of the Kingdom are yet to come, but everything done between now and then builds towards a bountiful harvest and a comfortable winter season.

Such is the State of Agriculture in Falunnia this 13 July 2020.
