ACF Report, March 2020

Spring has thus far been wet in the capital. While temperatures seem to finally be making the climb towards crop friendly weather, the ground remains too wet to be worked or planted. Concerns over missing out on early plantings of brassica crops such as broccoli as well as potatoes and short-day onions are well founded. While the Falunnian Agricultural complex can and will adapt to the season’s change, at this time only minor planting delays are imminent.

Prior to spring rains, the compost stocks of the Kingdom were turned, found to be well-rotted, and spread upon the planting beds of the capital. It will provide needed sustainable nutrients to this year’s crops.

A few minor changes will be made to the planting rotation this crop year. The primary grain crop was slated to be buckwheat, but after sourcing issues and other considerations, Grain Sorghum will be grown instead.

The Royal Stockpiles remain hearty, and are being dispensed at a sustainable rate to support the population in this time of COVID-19 quarantines. Trade with the outside world has been put on temporary moratorium as we continue this battle to flatten the curve.

That said, efforts to make trade deals and propose future endeavors has increased. The ACF is currently in talks with local vineyards and wineries to contract removal of prunings this coming winter. Grapevines can serve utilitarian and commercial function. Both as décor in the form of wreaths and bundles, and as the sought-after grapevine charcoal used by artists. Talks with local vintners are also surrounding the vintning of the first Royal wine vintage.

Prior to the self-quarantining policies enacted by neighboring states, a partnership had been struck up to begin a print advertising publication in a nearby state. The partnership with this citizen of Falunnia is under development and being reimagined under the circumstances.

Our report will conclude with diplomatic developments. On 8 March, 2020, The Kingdom of Falunnia entered into a Treaty of Mutual Recognition with the Empire of Lehmark. A hearty Falunnian welcome to this new partner in commerce and friendship!

Such is the state of Agriculture in Falunnia on this 26 March, 2020.
