Initial Report on the State of Falunnian Agriculture

Having been chartered, a key function of the Agricultural Cooperative of Falunnia is to provide regular reports on the State of Agriculture. This will be our initial report, to establish the baseline for progress and development. Below are the findings of the report.

Crop Planting

Being located in USDA Hardiness Zone 6a, it is currently t cold for the survival of most common Falunnian crops, making our current planting progress 0%. However, several varietals of both peppers and tomatoes have been started from seed and were recently transplanted to larger pots for grow-out.

The following annual crops will be planted within the Kingdom in the agricultural year 2020:

  • Buckwheat
  • Bush Beans (green beans)
  • Tomatoes (canning varieties)
  • Peppers (Paprika and Pimento varieties)
  • Onions (bunching and bulbous)
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Red Potatoes
  • Sunflowers
  • Peas (shelling type)

The following NEW perennial crops are being integrate into production:

  • Asparagus
  • Black Currant
  • Cherry Trees (within Dry Hill Territory)

The following CURRENT perennial crops are expected to produce heavily this year:

  • Blackberries
  • Strawberries

Animal Agriculture

Animal husbandry is currently limited within the Kingdom to a small flock of five chickens. Plans to expand, with the help of citizen investors, into the following practices are planned:

  • Coturnix Quail
  • Additional Chickens
  • Freshwater Prawns (within Dry Hill Territory)

Existing Trade Obligations

The ACF is currently administrating on behalf of the Falunnian Environmental Corps its cornerstone Tree Planting project and continues to prepare for the spring planting season.

In cooperation with an international partner, an agreement has been made to provide nursery stock of 200 tomato seedlings to a nursery in the neighboring state of Missouri.

Craft Goods

The Kingdom continues to produce couture clothing at the hands of its citizens. This is primarily not for sale at this juncture.

The production of fiber products is being discussed within the kingdom to supplement agricultural income. Fiber will provide raw materials for paper and cloth-making, as well as exportable raw fiber. Kenaf, Bamboo, and processing existing soft pine from the Dry Hill Territory are all contenders.

Approval has been granted for another state business, Heartland Minting & Jewelry, to purchase a new inside engraver, to allow to the engraving of rings inside the bands. This is a boon for the jewelry production system, allowing regnal and signet rings to be marked with important dates and messages.

Current Stockpiles

Currently the Kingdom has in stock for consumption or trade the following commonly used commodities:

  • 200 lbs preserved tomatoes, in various forms
  • 50 lbs blanched and frozen onions
  • 300 lbs shelled corn, in storage
  • 75 lbs frozen, dried, and otherwise preserved squashes
  • 50 lbs woolen fibers
  • 3 cords of split and stacked wood for burning or fiber
  • Approximately one ton of well-processed compost
  • Other sundry goods useful in trade and for daily use to account for 50 lbs total stock.

Such is the State of Agriculture in Falunnia on this 26 February, 2020.
